What do the letters on the bottom of a Zippo lighter mean
If you go to this site you can get a full explanation, but basically the stamp on the bottom tells you the month, year and patent number. I had heard a fictitious story at one point that the higher the number on the bottom, the better the lighter was in regard to actual lighting (i.e. if you had a high number you could light your lighter in a gale force wind, but if you had a low number you couldn't) but that is obviously not true. Hope this site gives you more info!!
Usually u will see I or II or III.
I used to collect Zippo lighters and I noticed an odd thing about them. Ca not remember in which order, but they actually have a different ''ping'' sound when u flip open the lighter. Eg, those marked I has a duller ''ping'' and those marked III has a higher pitched ''ping''.
Anyway those are only my observations.
it tells you what year that it was made and where.there are web site that will tell you exactly what they mean
It is from the machine that makes them and it is used to verify that they are really a Zippo.
